Therapeutic Dance (copy)
I have been dancing for as long as I can remember. As a kid, my parents would watch me wiggle my way through grocery stores and to imitate mannequins in department stores. Channeling all this energy, I jumped into tap and jazz classes with glee. My sisters and I danced our way through the years together.
As years passed, I expanded my training and enjoyed modern dance and Dalcroze Methods. I dove head first into voice and theatre and enjoyed a professional performing career in the U.S. and abroad spanning more than two decades. Interestingly, I was considered a dancer but never felt like one. All I wanted to do was sing! It was only when I found Nia, Authentic Movement, Groove, and other modalities that the true dancer within me emerged. And my goodness, she was ready to MOVE!
Living in Maplewood, NJ for 20 years, I had a deep desire to build community. I created the Nia New Jersey community, a group of like-minded, open-hearted people who gathered to move and connect and learn from one other. I now live in New York’s Hudson Valley and as I continue to settle in, I am finding marvelous movement communities to dance with.
After discovering the transforming and healing power of movement, ALL kinds of movement, I have devoted my life and heart to helping others find the true dancer within.
If you have any questions or would like to be included on my email list for movement class details and event offerings, please contact me with your email address and I will be sure you hear all about what I’m up to.
Therapeutic Dance
Combining steps and a whole lot of freedom, therapeutic dance invites your body, mind and soul to come out and play. More than just a workout, movement experiences tap into your emotions to help build not only physical strength but also emotional resilience.
Discover, explore, unleash, and enhance your potential to live a healthy and meaningful life by engaging your senses and listening to your body. Each movement experience leaves you feeling physically energized, mentally clear, and emotionally balanced.
Simple moves and repetition invite you to step in and stay in… in the community, in the music, in your body. We practice barefoot, and every class can be adapted to individual needs and abilities.
I teach Therapeutic Dance on Tuesdays, 12:30-1:30pm (eastern time) via Zoom.
I teach in Stone Ridge, NY and enJOY a class share with Jayne Mielo. Please contact me for dates I’m teaching. This class is in person.
FreeDance Experience
Freedom! No steps, no need to think, no combinations to learn. These experiences are all about listening to the music and your mood and letting your authentic dance find it’s way. Let go, breathe, move and see what happens. The classes I teach offer a balance of energies and provide the opportunity to discover the sacred fullness of your entire being.
FreeDance asks you to listen to your body and soul and move from a place that will surprise you each and every time. There is no right or wrong here. Be spontaneous, creative, radical and adventurous, and move and groove in ways that are sure to awaken you. Expand beyond your comfort zone. Without following the teacher, you are invited into your own experience. Just you, the music and your movement, create magic and healing you never imagined possible.
I offer FreeDance Experiences the first Sunday of every month, 11:00am – 12:30pm (eastern time). During this time, I am offering FreeDances via Zoom only.

What students say about my Therapeutic Dance classes…
"Lori Lynn, your personality matches your wonderful spirit. Your aura is magical. I am so happy I found you. Your classes have changed my world. Thank you for sharing your vibrant soul with all of us. What a lovely way to spend time with like-minded people, my people. Keep it going!"
— S.N.
"At the end of class, you asked us to give room to 'WHAT I LEARNED." What a gift! I have so much in common with others, folks from all over the world. Together, we make a pie. Each person is a piece of, a part of, the whole. Everyone, sharing and acknowledging one another with shaking hands in the air....one FAR OUT experience, again and AGAIN!”
— J.S.
"What a beautiful reminder this class is... that I can find community here on Zoom. It is terrific to be able to really feel like dancing, even though we're not in the same room. We're Zooming in from so many different places, but coming together for one purpose. It's so meaningful. Thank you for your deeply attuned movement (and Zoom!) expertise, Lori Lynn."

What students say about my FreeDance Experiences…
“The event last night was FIVE STARS! And you know I have not always been comfortable and at ease with FreeDance. It was the music, it was the setting, it was the group of people, it was the safety you create for us before, during and after… and of course, it is YOU, Lori Lynn!”
— B.C.K.
“Our FreeDance Experience was amazing. I found myself moving through space in expansive ways. Energetic, strong and quick, I felt a flow that I have not sensed in a long time. Lori Lynn, you craft this experience - integrating body, mind, emotions and spirit - with music and poetry. Inviting us to move in ways that might not feel typical, I found myself moving with lightness and joy. Thank you for this special movement experience. Thank you for you.”
— T.E.
“I felt this sensation of 'trance-dancing' in the best possible way. Something was moving through me. Your energy, your way, your words, inviting us to ALLOW IT ALL have continued to reverberate. Thank you, Lori Lynn, from the tips of my dancing toes!”
